Cycle-pedestrian routes connecting the airport and the municipality of Fiumicino
Implementing party
Project description
The project involves the construction of a double-lane cycle path, with an approximate length of 4 kilometres, which will connect the Fiumicino cycle path system to the airport terminals and the technical area of the airport. This infrastructure will extend partially along the Roman Coastal State Nature Reserve and in the area of the Port of Claudio, offering two possible ways of use:
- Functional connection: the cycle path will act as a practical connection between the main working facilities of the airport, the train station and the town of Fiumicino, facilitating travel for the airport population and local residents.
- Cultural and historical connection network: in addition to its functional role, the infrastructure constitutes a connection network for a territory characterised by considerable cultural, historical and archaeological interest. This will allow transit passengers, tourists and Roman citizens to explore the historical and cultural riches of the area along the bike path route.
Through this infrastructure, it will be possible to visit several attractions of historical-archaeological interest along the way, including the remains of the North Pier of Claudius, the Captaincy and Archaeological Area of Monte Giulio, the Museum of Roman Ships, the Monument to the Fallen of Kindu and the Parish of Santa Maria degli Angeli. The main objective of this intervention is therefore to promote sustainable mobility and the enhancement of the cultural and historical heritage of the area through the use of bicycles as a means of transport.
