Park overlooking Ostia Antica

Implementing party

Roma Capitale

Project description

The project included a series of actions aimed at expanding the public use of the left bank—considering the direction of the Tiber River flow—close to the archaeological excavations of Ostia Antica. The work also involved the improvement of the docking system for the boats carrying out the visitor transport service between the river station of Ponte Marconi (Tiberis) and the archaeological area of Ostia Antica.

The central theme of the project was the use of natural elements such as wood and stabilised earth, i.e. materials that represent a continuity with the river environment and that implement a concept of "approaching" the river, by assigning the archaeological landscape the role of absolute protagonist of the architectural theme.

Further objectives were the creation of new functions and services capable of supporting qualified, aware and preservation-oriented tourism in the area, together with the improvement of general accessibility, through the redevelopment of existing routes and the construction of new low-impact paths and facilities.
