In October 2023, the Sports Arena on Viale Tiziano was finally partially reopened to the public, allowing for the attendance of 2,000 spectators. This reopening aims to allow the Roman Serie A basketball and volleyball teams to begin the championship, while the final works on the structures of the upper circle continue at the same time. The works, supported by a supplementary contract worth 1.5 million euro approved by the Gualtieri Council, are scheduled for completion by March 2024.
Initially, the PalaTiziano underwent restructuring works with 3.1 million euro financing from the Raggi Council in 2021. However, the contract that ended during the Gualtieri Council did not guarantee the complete restoration of the facility, meaning it was still unusable by the city.
The decision-making process to supplement the necessary works was formalised through a resolution endorsed by the director, prot.EA/193 dated 16 December 2022. This resolution approved the executive plan to complete the essential maintenance works, in order to ensure the reopening of the Palatiziano and its use by the Roman professional basketball and volleyball teams in categories A1, A2 and B elite. In the years prior, these teams were forced to play games at other sites.
With a capacity of around 3,500 seats, the sports facility will, according to the planning of the Capitoline Administration, be available for other sports once more, including contact sports. The aim is to initiate virtuous cycles that promote major events and offer investment opportunities for companies interested in promoting not only sport, but also wider events.
