Caput Mundi: Conservative restoration and enhancement of the Settecamini archaeological area
Implementing party
Project description
Settecamini has two important archaeological areas. The first, located at the ninth mile of Via Tiburtina, contains a well-preserved stretch of the ancient Via Tiburtina, surrounded by tombs and archaeological finds. The second, smaller site is located at the intersection of Via Casal Bianco and Via Tiburtina and contains the remains of an ancient post house.
Activities will focus on securing around the remains and archaeological area, so that it may be opened to the public. The following actions are planned:
- perimeter fencing of the archaeological area;
- restoration, securing, and consolidation of existing ancient structures;
- archaeological excavations for further enhancement of the area;
- creation of a tour route accessible to all;
- partial removal of invasive tree species;
- creation of a newly built visitor reception centre;
- creation of an evening lighting system for the area;
- creation of structures and furniture in service of the neighbourhood.
