The project of conservation and enhancement for the fountains in the city centre required several maintenance interventions. The main objective was to preserve the fountains over time, improve the experience for visitors and ensure efficient management through targeted and timely interventions.

Specifically, the extraordinary maintenance of the Fountain of the Barcaccia involved a series of operations aimed at preserving and enhancing the landmark:

• removal of deposits of dirt and atmospheric particulates
• stabilisation of surfaces with flakes or unstable fragments to prevent further loss of material
• treatment to remove biological patinas
• cleaning of all stone surfaces
• elimination of weedy vegetation
• antioxidation treatment of metal elements
• overhaul of the waterproofing of basins.
