Rationalisation of the A24 motorway - East beltway connection
Implementing party
Project description
In 2021, in a collaboration between the Department of Sustainable Mobility and Transport, Strada dei Parchi S.p.A (now ANAS S.p.A.), and the Department for the Coordination of Infrastructure Development and Urban Maintenance, an experiment was launched to optimise traffic and vehicle flow at the connection node between the New Inner Ring Road (Nuova Circonvallazione Interna, or N.C.I.) and the access ramp to the A24 from Via Tiburtina adjacent to the Verano cemetery. This section became inadequate for traffic flow after the opening of the New Inner Ring Road, and has undergone a temporary separation between the access ramp to the A24 and the N.C.I. through the use of Jersey barriers. In particular, two carriageways were created: one for the N.C.I. in the direction of S. Giovanni and the other for the access ramp to the A24 from Via Tiburtina, in addition to a reversing lane at Largo Passamonti for access to the A24. The current intervention aims to consolidate this solution by:
- widening roadways;
- reconstruction of the pedestrian path;
- installation of new dividing barriers;
- reconstruction of the road surface;
- updating of horizontal and vertical signage.
