Redevelopment of Gregorio VII pedestrian underpass
Implementing party
Project description
The intervention concerns the pedestrian underpass in Via Gregorio VII, a crucial access point for tourists and pilgrims visiting St Peter's Basilica. The underpass serves two main functions: it allows a safe crossing of Via di Porta Cavalleggeri by means of stairs, and it provides a connection between Terminal Gianicolo and the San Pietro railway station. Built for the Jubilee in 2000, the underpass has deteriorated over the years. The intervention aims to restore its original decoration, preparing it for the influx of pilgrims on the occasion of the Jubilee in 2025.
