Redevelopment of historical paving: extraordinary maintenance of cobbled roads
Implementing party
Project description
The intervention concerned some of the main road infrastructures within the territory of Municipality I of Rome. Some of these, located in the urban area surrounding Vatican City, were redeveloped as part of the works included in the Historical Paving Redevelopment Plan.
The works were carried out on an extensive network of secondary roads in the Borgo Pio area. In accordance with the Sampietrino Plan, the existing stone paving was maintained and redeveloped through interventions aimed at correcting the transverse geometries and regularising the laying surfaces.
These interventions required a specific approach designed to ensure the durability of the road pavement through the use of innovative methods and materials. The works were planned and implemented in a manner that minimised interference with other activities and traffic restrictions in the area.
Overall, approximately 25,000 square metres of road infrastructure were affected by the completed interventions.
