Redevelopment of Piazza Bottego and Via del Campo Boario

Implementing party

Roma Capitale – VIII Municipality

Project description

The project consisted in the redevelopment of Piazza Vittorio Bottego. The square, which is circular in shape, is situated just up against the Aurelian Walls on the border with the 1st City Hall, between Monte dei Cocci and the Protestant Cemetery. It serves as a connecting point between the Testaccio district and the Ostiense district. The works were:

  • modify the profile of the central flowerbed of the Piazza Bottego roundabout and extend the the green area and the resize of the roadway, in order to increase its safety and improve viability;
  • redesign the road pavement nearby the arches of the walls, where a band of sanpietrini was built into the carriageway pavement, which reduced the speed of entry into the roundabout and provide continuity to the pedestrian paths, underlining the layout of the walls;
  • create a pedestrian path in draining stabilised earth along the Aurelian Walls on Via del Campo Boario, thus enhancing the ancient walls and promoting their use.
