San Silverio Market

Project description

The new "San Silverio" Market was inaugurated on 6 October 2023 in the presence of the Mayor, marking a significant moment for the Cavalleggeri district. This market, which for over 60 years was in an inadequate location and in a state of degradation, has finally been brought back to life.

The redevelopment involved the demolition and reconstruction of the old market, following a project inherited from the previous administration but subject to major structural and substantial revisions. Despite the challenges, in two years it has been possible to provide commercial operators with a functional and healthy working environment, citizens with a welcoming and accessible commercial space, and the territory as a whole with an improvement in urban decorum and the organisation of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The renovated building, consisting of a canopy and box structure, extends over a covered paved plateau that serves as a commercial area. The commercial stalls, which were previously 21, have now become 33, offering more opportunities to operators. This public space is enriched by benches for resting and bordered by metal gates that close at the end of the daily activities of the market.

Externally, the plateau connects with the surrounding pedestrian sidewalks and offers parking for visitors and for loading and unloading of goods. The reopening of the "San Silverio" Market represents an important step forward in the neighbourhood's rebirth and in offering services to the local community.
