At the end of July 2023, a contract was launched for the renewal of Roma Capitale's road hydrant fleet, consisting of about 2,000 elements. The intervention consists of replacing the operating parts (end caps) with a new type of head, equipped with sensors, GSM card, and SIM card to monitor pressures, opening/closing events, and maintenance status. This contract also includes new installations, platform and registry management, and emergency response. 

Among the new elements and the old, there were 3,289 hydrants on the road in October 2025. In 2025, 279 heads with sensors were installed and 10 new generation devices were added to the hydrant park. In 2026, 400 heads with sensors will be installed (200 ready and 200 coming soon), accompanied by 50 new generation hydrants (15 ready and 35 in delivery). As an extra supply for emergencies, 50 traditional hydrants remain available.
