Project description

The project involves a series of interventions aimed at restoring the monument, which is now in a serious state of degradation.

Some of the main objectives include:

  • Structural consolidation and cleaning of the façade;
  • Consolidation work on the lower level, where some rooms have not been freed from the original interiors (1928), in order to prevent further deterioration of the façade, particularly one of the entrances to the lower floor;
  • Archaeological excavation of some areas;
  • Elimination of water seepage from the roofs;
  • Consolidation and cleaning of the internal surfaces of the rooms;
  • Rehabilitation and conservative restoration of the floor surfaces in opus spicatum;
  • Arrangement of the green area;
  • Electrical, lighting, telephone/data, air conditioning, video surveillance and anti-burglary system, lift connecting the different levels;
  • Facilities and equipment: reception desk and ticket office, info-point, educational panels and multimedia stations, exhibition of archaeological finds (stored in the deposit inside the monument);
  • Architectural barriers: equipment will be provided in all rooms to remove architectural barriers and create paths and platforms for the blind.

The restoration and safeguarding of the monument, in addition to its preservation, will prevent the progression of the risk conditions that would cause its definitive loss. At the same time, the implementation of an enhancement project will make it accessible to the public. At present, due to the serious state of degradation of the monument, visits are restricted to two floors by reservation and are intended for small groups of visitors or individual scholars.
