Caput Mundi: Restoration of the sculptural groups of the Dioscuri in the Capitoline Hill
Implementing party
Project description
The restoration intervention will be divided into different phases aimed at returning the work to its original state. Below are the planned activities:
- preliminary verification of the stability of all the constituent parts, with the possible temporary removal of unsafe portions. In this phase, each element will be examined in order to evaluate its structural integrity and determine its possible removal;
- removal of weeds and disinfection of biological patinas. Weeds that could have a negative impact on the structure will be eliminated. Furthermore, disinfection operations will be carried out to remove biological organisms that could damage the work;
- cleaning of stone surfaces and antioxidant treatment of metal elements. Stone surfaces will be cleaned to remove dirt, smog deposits and other impurities. Metal elements, such as nails, brackets or other connections, will be subjected to an antioxidant treatment to prevent corrosion and prolong their life;
- consolidation of the surfaces, with particular attention paid to the connections between the blocks. During this phase, interventions will be carried out to improve the cohesion and stability of the stone surfaces. In particular, attention will be paid to the connections between blocks to ensure they are solid and resistant.
