Caput Mundi: Villa Doria Pamphilj - Exedra of the theatre garden and Nymphaeum of the Tritons: restoration of decorative elements and lighting enhancement of the complex
Implementing party
Project description
The Exedra shows a poor state of preservation and widespread degradation of the surfaces, attacked by infesting vegetation. Two of the 20 pots placed on the balustrade have missing parts at the top of the rim and the copy of the statue of Neptune placed in the centre of the Exedra was destroyed in April 2020. Large cracks opened up in the perimeter wall in the north-western sector, due to the 2016 earthquake.
The interventions on the Exedra will include:
- historical-stylistic restoration;
- reinforcement of the north-western wall;
- cleaning of surfaces;
- restoration of original decorative elements composing the surface decoration;
- renovation of the water system;
- restoration of the pots on the balustrade;
- renovation of the replica of the Neptune statue;
- lighting enhancement of the structure.
The Nymphaeum complex shows a poor state of conservation, especially in the case of the fountain water supply. The intervention will include:
- the recovery of the cave from the infiltration of infesting vegetation roots found in the upper part of the fountain;
- reinforcement of walls decoration;
- restoration of the original jeux d’eau through the renovation of the water system;
- the restoration of the functionality and decoration of the access gate and the corresponding gate;
- renovation of the replica of the Pan statue;
- lighting enhancement of the structure.
