Ponte della Scafa
Implementing party
Project description
The new Ponte della Scafa over the Tiber River, located between Rome's Municipality X and the Municipality of Fiumicino, is of fundamental importance as a strategic link. Its main function is to provide access to Fiumicino airport and the urban area of Isola Sacra, as well as to facilitate the connections to the Ostia Antica Archaeological Park and the Grassi hospital in Ostia. The bridge structure, a parabolic arch about 285 metres long, was designed in collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendence of Ostia, the Municipality of Fiumicino and ARDIS. The project takes into account the architectural constraints and the surrounding urban context, while ensuring a smooth and functional flow of traffic. In addition to the main bridge, the intervention includes access viaducts and an interchange ramp towards Ostia. The road section has two lanes in each direction, side platforms and a pavement, with a total width of 24 metres. The aim is to improve the efficiency of the road network, reduce traffic congestion and easily connect key points in the area.
